Hand Made Plain Tiles
Crafted by Hand. Trusted for Generations.
William Blyth’s handmade plain tiles are the embodiment of heritage, craftsmanship, and long-lasting performance.
Individually shaped and finished by hand using our own reserves of Humber alluvial clay, each tile reflects the traditional methods we’ve preserved since 1840.
Whether specified for listed buildings, conservation areas, or new homes with architectural integrity, our clay plain tiles offer a naturally beautiful and durable finish.
A Tile With Character
Unlike machine-made alternatives, every William Blyth plain clay roof tile is subtly unique.
Formed by hand and fired in our traditional coal-fired kilns alongside our pantiles, these tiles develop natural tonal variation, giving your roof a depth of colour and richness of texture that cannot be replicated by modern processes.
Available in four heritage colours; Natural Red, Weathered, Light Antique, and Dark Earth, our plain roof tiles can be laid as a single tone or blended to create a bespoke roofscape.

For projects seeking something with added character, we also offer a larger Medieval Tile variant with a rustic finish, echoing the textures of historic roofscapes. Contact us for more information.

*Handmade clay tiles are subject to small variations in size because of the drying and firing shrinkage within the manufacturing process. Before deciding on the batten gauge and linear coverage, the roof tiler should inspect each batch of tiles to ensure that the correct minimum head lap and side lap are achieved. Unless otherwise stated, specification and fixing guide is based on the tiles laid at minimum head lap. Tiles should be drawn from three or more packs concurrently to ensure consistency of blend.
