Handmade Roof Tiles with Timeless Character

The Classic Range by William Blyth offers a more affordable alternative to our heritage collections without compromising on quality or appearance.
Each tile is handmade using traditional methods. The result is a classic roof tile range that balances heritage style with practical cost-efficiency, ideal for volume developments, restorations, and sensitive new builds.

Our Classic Range tiles embody the same aesthetic principles, including a subtle surface texture, tonal depth, and soft irregularities that reflect a more natural, lived-in finish.
Classic Range – Orange Handmade Sanded Plain Tile
Rich orange colour tones offer a warm, regional feel reminiscent of tiles historically produced in Sussex and Kent. Often specified for vertical hanging, Orange tiles can also be mixed with others to achieve bespoke blends.
Classic Range – Red Handmade Sanded Plain Tile
A rich red-orange hue that works beautifully on properties across South East England. This popular shade adds depth and warmth and is well suited to both roof coverings and decorative tile hanging.
Classic Range – Weathered Handmade Sanded Plain Tile
If your project calls for an aged appearance from day one, the Weathered tile is an ideal choice. Its delicate variation in tone creates the look of a matured, timeworn roof, perfect for conservation-led new builds or sympathetic renovations.
Classic Range – Brown Handmade Sanded Plain Tile
With rustic brown tones and earthy shading, the Brown tile brings traditional charm to rural cottages, barns, and contemporary countryside homes. The lightly sanded surface provides extra texture and depth, enhancing the overall character.
Classic Range – Antique Handmade Sanded Plain Tile
Our darkest option, Antique tiles feature a deep black-brown blend that delivers the effect of a reclaimed or historic roof. Used alone or combined with other colours, this tile helps achieve a truly heritage look with modern performance.

*Handmade clay tiles are subject to small variations in size because of the drying and firing shrinkage within the manufacturing process. Before deciding on the batten gauge and linear coverage, the roof tiler should inspect each batch of tiles to ensure that the correct minimum head lap and side lap are achieved. Unless otherwise stated, specification and fixing guide is based on the tiles laid at minimum head lap. Tiles should be drawn from three or more packs concurrently to ensure consistency of blend.
Available in five finishes, our classic range roof tiles can be used singularly or blended to create the look and feel of a more mature or regionally accurate roofscape. See examples of common blends below.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Classic Range tiles handmade or machine made?
The Classic Range tiles are all handmade using traditional techniques, giving each tile natural texture, character and subtle variation. They offer the appearance of a traditional clay roof tile while supporting a more accessible option within the William Blyth range.
Can I blend colours for a reclaimed look?
Yes. Many of our customers choose to blend two or more colours, such as Red and Weathered, to create a more natural, aged effect. This can help achieve the character of a reclaimed roof while using newly made handmade clay tiles.
Is there stock available or a long lead time?
The Classic Range is typically available from stock or on short lead times, making it a practical choice for projects where availability is important. Please contact our team to confirm current stock levels, colour options and delivery times.
What colours are available in the William Blyth Classic Range?
The Classic Range is available in a selection of traditional tones, including Orange, Red, Weathered, Brown and Antique. These colours are designed to suit both heritage-style properties and new builds seeking a more established appearance.
Are Classic Range tiles suitable for new build projects?
Yes. Classic Range tiles are well suited to new build homes, extensions and developments where a handmade clay tile finish is desired. They bring warmth, texture and long-lasting character to both traditional and contemporary roof designs.
Do Classic Range tiles weather naturally over time?
As clay roof tiles, the Classic Range will continue to settle and weather naturally once installed. This helps the roof develop depth, softness and character, enhancing the traditional appearance over time.
Can I order Classic Range samples before placing an order?
Yes. We recommend requesting samples to view the colour, texture and finish of the Classic Range before making a final decision. This is especially useful when comparing colours or planning a blended roof finish.
