Light Antique Pantiles Durham
At Beamish Museum, this landmark heritage project reflects a commitment to authenticity, craftsmanship, and careful restoration. As part of the museum’s continued development, materials were selected not only for their performance, but for their ability to honour the character of the North East’s historic built environment.
Working alongside Brims Construction, William Blyth supplied 6,720 Barco Old English Pantiles in Light Antique, a choice rooted in both aesthetic sensitivity and long-term durability. Handmade using traditional methods and Humber clay from our own reserves, each tile carries the natural variation and character essential to heritage projects of this scale.
The gentle undulation and weathered tones of the Light Antique pantiles sit comfortably within the museum’s setting, helping new structures feel established and in keeping with their historic surroundings. This careful attention to detail has contributed to the project receiving multiple regional and national awards, with further recognition through its shortlisting for the RIBA North East Regional Awards.
Beamish Museum stands as a testament to how traditional materials, thoughtfully specified, can play a vital role in preserving and celebrating Britain’s architectural heritage.
